Dear Church,
I hope you’re enjoying your week and finding some moments to get outside between the raindrops. Because of my foot injury I am on a break from my normal day-off volunteer gig at the horse farm, so on Monday I took advantage of what might be my last opportunity to dunk in cold water before it gets REALLY cold and swam in the fast-moving brackish water of the Spurwink River. It was invigorating and just the re-set I needed after a busy few weeks. What helps you to re-set or get perspective when things are a bit chaotic or overwhelming? I know many of you are busy with your kids’ fall schedules, trying to squeeze in as much outdoor time as you can, knocking on doors to canvas, and more. Take a pause, when you can, and do something that connects you to the earth or your own lifeforce. The world needs you whole!
I’m out of the pulpit this Sunday and you’ll be led in worship by your A2U2 Worship Committee. Next week we have many opportunities to connect including the ‘Congregational Life Idea Blitz Part 2, Zoom Edition’ online at 7pm on Tuesday 10/20 (link in Breeze and the ENews). And then a week from tomorrow, Friday 10/23, I will moderate a panel at the Equality Community Center entitled “Living Both: Trans Journeys of Faith,” with trans and genderqueer speakers from different faith traditions reflecting on how their trans identity and faith intersect and inform each other. The next day, 10/24, we have a fabulous educator and facilitator, Alex Kapitan, joining us from Massachusetts, for “The Spiritual Work of Trans Liberation” workshop. Learn more and register for the workshop here. We were lucky to narrowly avoid having the anti-trans “girls in sports” citizens ballot initiative up for a vote this November after too many of their signatures couldn’t be verified. But they’re already working on launching their next campaign and we have the opportunity to get ourselves educated and equipped well in advance. Feel free to share with those who might benefit from these offerings outside of our A2U2 community!
Have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to being together again.
Until then, may your days be blessed.
In faith,
Rev. Tara
