A New Church Year

A2U2 Community,

In just a few days we will gather together in our Allen Avenue Sanctuary and online, merging our waters into one bowl as we do each September to symbolize our return to community and to ritualize the beginning of a new church year. I can’t wait to greet you and return to the pulpit, a sacred place of ministry for me because of my love for what we’re building together. I can’t wait to see our children and how they’ve grown, and to hear what’s on your hearts in this time of transition.

Transitions, of course, are not easy for many of us. Since returning from summer leave I’ve learned of some of your sorrows and joys, changes and losses. I am reminded of the complexity of each of our lives and re-enter grounded in the humility that radical Love requires of us. I invite you to bring all of yourself back to church… the broken pieces, the parts that have healed… bring your family, your questions, your existential dread… bring a friend, a listening ear, a passion for change, a wild idea.

For those interested, our UUA President, Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt recorded a beautiful ingathering message to share with our congregations, entitled “Meeting the Moment”. We as Unitarian Universalists are called to meet this moment with a fierce hope and deep commitment. Which is hard work! And exactly why we do it together.

Bring some water for our Water Communion Ritual on Sunday, and also consider bringing a mask to wear in the sanctuary. COVID is going around again and we must care for our bodies!

With joyful anticipation,

Rev. Tara
