Conferences and Camps

The Northern New England District sponsors occasional youth assemblies. For more information about these programs for middle school through high school youth, contact the Director of Religious Education or the below resources directly.

Summer Youth Programs

We are blessed with a number of terrific Unitarian Universalist and UU-Friendly summer camps within the region. They offer overnight camps and programs for children and youth as well as inter-generational family camps. They include:

Ferry Beach Park Association, Saco, ME
(www.ferrybeach.org). Ferry Beach has been a spiritual home for many Unitarian Universalists for generations, including many from A2U2. Throughout the summer Ferry Beach offers many camps and conferences for children, teens, families and adults. And it’s located right on the beach!

Star Island Conference Center, Portsmouth, NH(www.starisland.org). "Ten miles out” from Portsmouth is the stunningly beautiful Star Island that offers an array of stellar UU and UCC camps and workshops. The week long programs for both adults and youth include art, natural history, religious education, international affairs and science.

Rowe Camp and Conference Center, Rowe, MA(www.rowecenter.org) Rowe Camp and Conference Center offers wonderful multi-week camps for kids 8 through 18 years olds. Camps focus on promoting an environment of youth empowerment, tuition is based on a sliding scale, and the food is great. Rowe is a year-round Unitarian Universalist conference center.

Friends Camp, South China, ME
(www.friendscamp.org) This Quaker camp offers one to four week sessions for youth ages 7 to 17 years, including special drama and leadership sessions. They write, "Friends Camp is a caring and accepting community that offers youth a range of creative activities and lots of zany fun. The Quaker values of equality, peace, simplicity, and community are the foundation of Friends Camp.”

Children's Memorial Fund

The Children’s Memorial Fund is a scholarship program providing financial assistance for children and youth from A2U2 to attend UU summer camps. The fund was originally set up in 1984 by Kathie and Peter Stead in memory of their son Jeffrey. Over the years, additional donations have been added to the fund. Each year the interest is made available for summer camp scholarships and is distributed predominantly based on need.

This is a great opportunity for families with children who are interested in attending the Ferry Beach summer programs, Friends Camp, Star Island, or one of the many other great UU summer conferences.

To apply for a scholarship from the Children’s Memorial Fund talk with our Director of Religious Education.
